Preserving more than a century's worth of history, the Marietta Fire Museum is home to a diverse collection of items used by the Marietta Fire Department since the 1800s. Each piece, whether it's a vehicle, a piece of clothing, equipment, or an antique photo, whispers tales of valor, innovation, and community service.

One of the main highlights is the Silsby Steamer. This horse-drawn, steam-powered pumper, purchased way back in 1879, was a workhorse until 1921. Just imagine, it served the city for over 40 years! What's even more fascinating is that this magnificent piece of machinery is one of only five still in existence today.

Following in the tire tracks of the Silsby Steamer, the museum features a 1921 American LaFrance pumper. Recognized as engine number two, this fire truck holds the badge of honor as one of the first motorized fire trucks in all of North Georgia. Next, the lineup features a 1929 Seagrave Pumper, designated as engine number one, which served faithfully until its retirement in 1959.

In 1949, the Marietta Fire Department welcomed a new addition to its fleet - a Pirsch Ladder Truck. With one of the highest-reaching ladders in North Georgia, it was designated ladder number one and faithfully responded to calls until 1984. But wait, there's more! The museum is also proud to display a 1952 Chevrolet Panel Truck. Originally donated by the Marietta Lions Club, this trusty vehicle earned its stripes as the first rescue truck in the city.

Now, with all this talk of vintage fire trucks, I don't want you to think it's all about vehicles. The museum also houses an impressive collection of clothing, equipment, antiques, and photos. Each display offers an in-depth glimpse into the evolution of firefighting and the tireless commitment of those who have served in the Marietta Fire Department over the decades.

The museum warmly welcomes visitors from Monday through Friday, 8 am to 5 pm, and on weekends by appointment. And guess what? Admission is free! However, they do appreciate donations, which help keep the museum running and the history alive.
